Day in the Life of a Medical Resident - With Dr. Allie Pumputis, Your Content Goes Here

“I completed a community anesthesia rotation at PRHC. It was a fantastic experience that focused more on the learning/teaching side of things (vs. service-based). The staff were quite good at giving me enough responsibility, pushing me to make decisions on my own, all-the-while being nearby and available should I need any help. This helped me grow as a clinician and gave me a little flavour of being an independent physician.

During this rotation I was able to work on my anesthesia skills as a whole, while being able to focus on skills that I wasn’t very comfortable with. This included providing anesthesia for certain types of patients and certain types of surgical specialties. I was also able to work on my regional anesthesia skills, which will help me in the future.

I would highly recommend rotating through PRHC! On top of the staff physicians being great preceptors, everyone else I worked with (e.g. nursing, clerks, etc.) were super kind and welcoming.”

“During my time at PRHC, I was always treated like part of the team. As an MS4, I was given enough autonomy to truly feel like I was caring for each patient and the ability to assess patients on my own and devise an appropriate plan while also having incredible support provided from attendings, residents, nurses and all the support staff. All the preceptors were very approachable, gave great feedback and asked thought-provoking questions.

This rotation gave me the opportunity to experience what being a PGY-1 would feel like and some insight on what the future looks like as a resident. My favorite part of this rotation was the opportunity to see patients in the emergency department for consults and independently formulate a problem-based plan, which I found to be a valuable skill that I’ve developed and will continue to strengthen throughout my training.

My experience at PRHC was great and I would recommend this rotation to all medical learners.”
