Book Your Screening Mammogram Appointment Online

Are you 40-74 years old? You can use MyChart to book a screening mammogram appointment without a physician referral.

The Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) expanded the self-referral age for mammograms to individuals between 40 and 74 years old. Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) now allows self-booking for screening mammograms at our Breast Assessment Centre. That means you can book your appointment date and time yourself through MyChart without making a phone call.

If you’re eligible for screening, you’ll see a notification in your MyChart with easy-to-follow booking instructions:

  • Locate the link to the OBSP self-scheduling page.

  • You will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires regarding information about yourself. If you meet the eligible criteria after filling out the questionnaires, you will be prompted to choose your appointment date and time.

  • After booking your appointment, you can find a message located in the Message Center confirming the details of your appointment.

Please note: This feature is currently only available to patients that meet the eligibility requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The OBSP allows patients between the ages of 40-74 years to self-schedule their own screening mammogram without a physician’s referral. It is important to note that not every patient between the ages of 40-74 will be considered a candidate for the program as eligibility is based on a specific set of criteria. Upon filling out the questionnaires in MyChart, you will be notified if you are a candidate and can proceed with self-scheduling.

Not every patient is a candidate for the OBSP Self-Scheduling Program. Based on the answers provided in the questionnaires, you may be unable to proceed with self-scheduling and instead consult your primary care provider (PCP), Health811, a walk-in clinic or PRHC Breast Assessment Centre for guidance.

The OBSP only allows appointments to be booked up to 150 days in advance. To book a future appointment, you will need to wait until closer to the desired appointment date.

See your family doctor or nurse practitioner: They can perform a clinical breast exam, assess your risk factors, and determine if further investigation is needed.

If you don’t have a doctor: Contact Health811 (811) or a walk-in clinic in your area for guidance.
