Peterborough, ON

Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) welcomed its first baby of 2026 at 1:01 a.m. on January 1, marking a joyful start to the new year.

Born to proud parents Tahirih and Noah and weighing in at six pounds, 11 ounces, baby girl Rowshan-Vandelinde is currently awaiting her new name.

She was the first of nine babies born at PRHC on New Year’s Day, making it a particularly busy and celebratory day for families and care teams at the hospital.

Baby Rowshan-Vandelinde is the couple’s first child. While they had originally planned for a home birth, the new mom says they felt warmly supported after transitioning to a hospital setting.

“We were hoping to have a home birth, but when plans quickly changed, we were able to make ourselves at home at the hospital with as much comfort and ambiance as Noah could possibly lug upstairs,” shared Tahirih. “We had a really positive experience — thank you to our midwife Kaitlyn, nurse Bria and Dr. Brian Harrington in particular.”

The new mom reflected on the quiet, wintry atmosphere that accompanied the early-morning birth.

“We laboured while the snow fell softly over a sleeping Peterborough and our family began a new year, a new day and a new chapter together in the quiet of the very early morning,” said Tahirih, who noted that the pink-orange sunrise was a near-perfect match for the colour of their new daughter’s hair.

Our congratulations to Tahirih, Noah, and every family who welcomed a new baby this New Year’s Day!
