Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost to the client?
There are no fees to attend our Service for people with a current OHIP card. You are asked to bring your OHIP card with you to every appointment.

How is a referral made and who can make a referral?
See above.

Does the client need to have a family physician? Why?
Yes, the client needs a family physician. PASE consults to the physician and does not offer primary care for medical issues. Older adults often have co-morbid conditions which exacerbate the psychiatric symptoms and it is very important that there be a good physical work up to rule out organic causes of disease symptoms.

What is the length of wait for the program?
It depends on the need of the client, where the person lives and if they can travel to a satellite clinic. Please call to discuss wait times.

Are family members able to attend appointments with the client or speak to the psychiatrist on their own?
Clients are encouraged to bring their families to the appointment. If families are not comfortable in speaking in front of the client this should be made known prior to the appointment.

Does PASE complete capacity assessments?
No, PASE does not offer capacity assessments. If a capacity assessment is required you should call the Public Guardian and Trustee telephone number and they will walk you through the processes required and provide local professionals who will do the assessment on a fee for service basis. 1 800 366 0335
