Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) has a extensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Department which includes the following inpatient and outpatient services.

Child & Adolescent Inpatient
Psychiatry Unit (Capu) - 6 Beds
This is a specialized 6 bed inpatient unit that provides a safe place for a comprehensive mental health assessment and acute stabilization for youth up to the age of 18 years. Family or guardians and other community service providers are involved throughout the inpatient stay.

· Individual and group therapy
· Psychoeducation in healthy coping mechanisms and life skills
· Medication management
· On-site day school for patients transitioning back into the community

Child and Adolescent Urgent Care Mental Health Clinic
The clinic provides urgent short–term mental health follow-up to kids and families following a visit to the Crisis Unit. Parents and youth can typically expect a phone call from the Urgent
Care Team within three business days of the Crisis Unit visit. Referrals from a pediatrician or a GP/NP are also accepted for youth who are experiencing urgent safety issues and/or sudden changes in functioning or mental status.

Section 23 day classroom
· Ambulatory Child Adolescent Clinic with a Board of Education sponsored Day Program.
· Section 23 classroom for high school age adolescents that are struggling to function in mainstream school/classrooms due to mental illness issues.
· Staffed by an HKPR board teacher and 1 RPN.

Eating disorders program
• The Eating Disorders Team is made up of social workers, a registered dietician and a nurse practitioner.
• Medical monitoring, nutritional counselling, and individual or group therapy are offered to clients with a diagnosed eating disorder across the lifespan
• The Maudsley Family Based Therapy approach is used for youth and their families under 18
• Psychiatry consultation is available with a referral from the nurse practitioner

The Opportunity
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the MHA department at PRHC would contribute to the work of the department through provision of outpatient assessment and treatment both on an urgent basis within the Child and Adolescent Urgent Care Clinic and also in a community Mental Health model within the Family and Youth Clinic. Included as part of the work of these teams is psychiatric consultation to the Pediatric (medical) Unit, as well as coverage for the Inpatient Child and Adolescent Unit. Our program has a close working
relationship with local First Nations communities and the Peterborough Family Health Team.

The ability to provide assessment and treatment services for the adolescent Dual Diagnosis population would be an asset in this role to support the Dual Diagnosis Community Consultation Program in partnership with CMHA and Tri-
County Behavioural Services.

The successful candidate would be joining our four child and adolescent psychiatrists who currently support the inpatient unit, the Family and Youth Clinic, and the Child and Adolescent Urgent Care Clinic. This is a full-time role shared between the hospital and community mental health agencies.
Competitive indirect (stipend, sessional) funding available.
