Locum Psychiatrist: Psychiatric Emergency Services, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Urgent Care Clinic

6 month locum, flexible duties and dates, part-time and permanent options

We are looking for a 6 month locum Psychiatrist to support our Psychiatric Emergency Services paired with consultation-liaison psychiatry and Urgent Care Clinic from June – December 2019.

The Opportunity
A 3-bed Crisis Response Unit (CRU) located in the Emergency Department (ED), staffed by 3 nurses, provides 24 hours metal health assessments and stabilization. Hospital 2 Home (H2H) in partnership with CMHA and Fourcast addictions services provides short-term case management in the community to patients attending the unit.

A multidisciplinary Youth and Adult Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) provide a bridging service for patients discharged from the ED and inpatient units. The adult UCC serves as an ED diversion
for patients and accepts referrals from both the ED and from local Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic. Our Youth UCC offers a similar service with referrals accepted form the ED, the Peterborough Family Health Team (PFHT) and local
First Nation communities.

A multidisciplinary adult and geriatric consultation-liaison psychiatry service provides inpatient consultations and ongoing liaison across medial-surgical units.

Inpatient services include a 24-bed acute adult inpatient unit; a 6-bed acute child and adolescent psychiatry unit (CAPU; and a 12-bed geriatric assessment behavourial unit (GABU) for older adults with dementia and behavourial disturbances.

We offer a diverse range of outpatient mental health programs across all stages of life, which include evidence based individual and group psychotherapies, outreach services and psychiatric
management. Subspecialty clinics include Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI), Psychosis Assessment and Treatment Clinic, Eating Disorder Program, Psychiatric Assessment Services for the Elderly (PASE), Family and Youth Clinic, Developmental
Disabilities Consulting Program (DDCP).

Psychological testing is also available for inpatient and outpatient services. Neurofeedback is also offered by Psychology.

Our Neurostimulation Program includes Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), with future plans underway to introduce repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS).

Our Department is a designated teaching site for trainees at the undergraduate level through Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP) and at the postgraduate levels through Queens, McMaster University and University of Toronto with opportunities for faculty appointments.

Qualifications
• Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or willing to obtain registration
• Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Fellow Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
• Demonstrated analytical ability
• Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members
• Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
