Overcoming Eating/Turning Points

Overcoming Overeating
Overcoming Overeating is a group program for women who are experiencing problems with eating, weight and body image. Using a non-dieting approach, this group focuses on developing and maintaining healthy attitudes and behaviours regarding food, activity and body image.

Over the course of seven weeks we consider:

  • What are eating problems and how do they develop?
  • Set-point theory and the effects of dieting
  • What is normal eating?
  • Strategies for change
  • What influences me
  • Assertiveness
  • Self-esteem

This program provides information, counselling and support through the use of video presentations, written materials and group discussions.

Turning Points and Overcoming Overeating groups are led by program staff. To find out more about either program, call the Women's Health Care Centre at (705) 743-4132 or 1-800-419-3111.

Turning Points
Turning Points is a group program for women who have eating disorders. Over the course of seven sessions we discuss the following topics:

  • What is an eating disorder?
  • What are the health risks to body and mind?
  • How do eating problems develop?
  • What is healthy weight?
  • What is healthy eating?
  • What can be done to break the cycle of problem eating?

This program provides information, counselling and support through the use of video presentations, a manual/workbook and group discussion. Turning Points is offered on a regular basis and is the first stage of the counselling service for women with eating disorders. A twelve-week series called Working Toward Recovery is available for women who have completed Turning Points.
