Following the successful completion of the 6 week “NICHE - Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders” Leadership Training Program through NYU’s College of Nursing, PRHC was officially granted NICHE designation status in April. The vision of NICHE is for all patients 65-and-over to be given sensitive and exemplary care. Comprised of over 500 hospitals and healthcare facilities in 46 states, Canada, and Bermuda, NICHE “engages hospitals and their affiliates in achieving and sustaining the NICHE designation. NICHE designation demonstrates a hospital's organizational commitment and continued progress in improving quality, enhancing the patient and family experience, and supporting the hospital's efforts to serve their communities” (NICHE, 2014).

Congratulations to the following staff members who completed the NICHE course (from L-R):

  • Carrie Cleverdon, Nurse Practitioner, Medicine (Participant)

  • Sean Martin, Director of Collaborative Practice (Project Sponsor)

  • Lori Laperle, Palliative Care Consultant (Participant)

  • Barb Huggins, Manager, Integrated Stroke Unit (Participant)

  • Jennifer Murdock, Nurse Educator, Sub-acute Care (Participant)
