Strategic Planning - Background
Building the regional platform
After years of deficits, PRHC embarked on an organizational turnaround in 2010. We committed to becoming financially sustainable, without sacrificing quality, capacity or safety.
Restructuring and shifting our performance was, and remains, challenging. The results have been encouraging. We are delivering the performance improvements promised in our Hospital Improvement Plan and have achieved a balanced run rate. We will be in a surplus position by March 2012. Our staff productivity rates are coming in line with the best in the province. Patient volumes and access have been maintained. Patient and staff safety data are demonstrating positive trends.

What is a strategic plan?
A strategic plan spells out where an organization wants to go, how it’s going to get there, and helps us decide how and where to allocate resources. It ensures that we are providing the services the community needs in the most efficient and cost-effective way, and that we are aligned with the vision for the delivery of health care throughout the region.
PRHC's Strategic Planning Process
The new process started in January 2011 and the draft Strategic Plan was approved by the Board of Directors for public consultation in June 2011. In that time, the hospital has consulted, interviewed, and conducted surveys with staff, physicians, volunteers, community members, community partners and stakeholders.
Internal and external communications vehicles, including our website, the CEO's blog, online video and surveys, will continue to be used along the way to inform and invite ideas as we work toward finalizing the Strategic Plan for September 2011.
