• The nurses in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit provide immediate post-operative recovery for surgical patients and for other patients who have received sedation e.g. for such procedures as ERCP, Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) and pacemaker insertion.
• In the PACU we provide complete assessment and monitoring of our surgical patients.
• PACU has a very high nurse-to-patient ratio, which allows for diligent, critical care in the immediate post-operative period.
• PACU cares for a variety of patients from children to adults recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures and tests.
• Patients stay in PACU for varying lengths of time depending on the type of surgery and anesthetic they receive
• Patients are discharged from PACU either to an inpatient surgical bed, if they are to be admitted post-operatively, or returned to the Surgical Outpatients Area.
• Relatives are not permitted into the PACU except under special circumstances

7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Monday to Friday

8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on weekends

 

PACU nurses are on call from 12:00 PM to 8:00 AM, 7 days per week, for emergency coverage
