B3 is associated with the
Regional Renal Program and is part of the Medicine Program.
This inpatient unit specializes in caring for nephrology patients, and in
particular, peritoneal dialysis patients. The nursing staff is comprised of both
RNs and RPNs working in a primary care model, all of whom are trained to provide
peritoneal dialysis care to patients within the unit, as well as throughout the
hospital. This unit also provides care for a variety of general medicine
patients.
B3 focuses on patient-centered care and incorporates a multidisciplinary team
of health professionals, consisting of a physiotherapist, an occupational
therapist, physiotherapist assistants, a speech language pathologist, registered
dieticians, social workers, discharge planners, a case manager from the
Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), physicians (both hospitalists and
nephrologists), nursing and clerical staff. This team meets daily to discuss the
needs of every patient admitted to B3.
