The in-patient medicine and cardiology unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre serves as a regional resource to fulfill the needs of patients who may have cardiac -related illnesses. The unit is located on A4, which provides care to a diverse group of patients, including those who may have had a heart attack, arrhythmias, unstable angina or heart failure.
A4 consists of 32 medicine beds, which can successfully monitor up to 10 telemetry patients. Telemetry enables the clinical staff to continually monitor a patient’s heart rate and rhythm.
The collaborative, inter-professional team on A4 consists of cardiologists, hospitalists, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, occupational therapists, social workers, speech therapists, discharge planners, clerical staff and outside partners, such as the Community Care Access Centre.
The goal of the medicine cardiology unit is to create a dedicated area to provide therapeutic, diagnostic, and educational components of cardiac care medicine.
