An outreach program of the PRHC Palliative Care Program, the purpose of this clinic is to improve the quality of life for those living with a diagnosis of cancer and their families.
Immediate priority is given to the assessment and management of distressing physical symptoms such as pain, nausea and vomiting or treatment side effects. The clinic also aims to support the emotional, spiritual and social quality of life issues.
- The clinic is a consultative service. The family doctor will continue to provide the ongoing care.
- A report will be phoned, faxed or mailed to the referring doctor.
- The clinic is open to residents of Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Haliburton counties by physician referral.
- There is no cost to attend the clinic, but transportation is the responsibility of the patient and family.
Regular clinic staff include:
- A family physician with experience in cancer symptom management.
- A nurse consultant in palliative care.
- Cancer support volunteer from Hospice Peterborough.
Other resource staff include:
- social worker
- spiritual care consultant
- pharmacist
- Access Centre case manager
- nutritionist
- physiotherapist
How to arrange an appointment…
- A physician referral is required.
- Every effort will be made to see a patient in the same week that the appointment is made.
- Book an appointment by calling the PRHC Medical Outpatient department @ (705) 743-2121 Ext. 2323 Appointments can be booked from Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
