Requirements/Qualifications

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Degree in relevant health science or related discipline and current registration with the relevant college or association.
Minimum of 5 years combined recent hospital experience in Infection Control or other related field.
Completion of an entry-level comprehensive infection prevention, control and epidemiology course is preferred.
Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology by Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc. is preferred.
 
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Demonstrated ability in interpersonal, communication, diplomacy, coaching, facilitation, critical thinking, problem solving and team building skills.
Sound understanding of diseases and disease process/transmission.
Ability to reference and interpret current guidelines and related legislation.
Knowledge of the principles and practice of adult learning/teaching and program design.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of hospital information systems.
Knowledge and practical experience in the use of computers and computerized databases.
Demonstrated ability to promote and manage change.
Possesses a positive mental skill set.
The practitioner must have the ability to remain calm, focused and non-judgmental at all times and especially during conflict resolution or a crisis situation.
Respects and maintains client/patient rights including privacy and confidentiality.

Department Profile

This position provides cross corporate leadership and support with linkages to multiple organizations to ensure current knowledge and compliance of infection prevention and control is maintained.  In order to provide for the prevention and control of infections, and support our corporate values, the Infection Control Practitioner is responsible for conducting ongoing surveillance, education, investigation analysis, direct intervention and communication to all pertinent parties.
